The church of a co-patron saint of Rome

The basilica is dedicated to the Benedictine nun, patron saint of drivers and co-patron saint of Rome, Saint Francesca Romana. Before becoming a nun she was married and had six children, some dying in childbirth. She then joined the sisterhood after her husbands death. The nun became a saint because of her service to the poor and sick people. As you enter her church, the main interior focal points are the nave decorated with a mosaic, seven side chapels, and a wooden coffered ceiling with decorative panels. Another eye-catching piece of art is the hodegetria (means she who shows the way) icon above the altar.
