Former Hospital Chapel Serving Sick Pilgrims to Titular Church Dedicated to St. James the Great
Site of a former hospital that closed in 2011, The Church of San Giacomo in Augusta, known by locals as San Giacomo delgi Incurabilii, was built on the site of a small chapel that frequented poor sick pilgrims.
From 1579 to 1584, St. Camillus de Lellis was director of the hospital, and it was here that he was inspired to establish his religious order, the Camillians. The church was completed in 1600 whilst the hospital was operated by Capuchin Friars.
