5th Century Basilica and Dominican Mother Church
In Rome, there is an ancient tradition that involves visiting different prescribed "Station Churches," on each day during the period of Lent. The Basilica of Santa Sabina on the Aventine Hill is the first station on this route. Every year, the Pope celebrates the beginning of Lent here, under these ancient vaults.
It is one of the only churches in Rome that has maintained it's architectural style from it's original construction in the 5th Century. The basilica is the Mother Church of the Dominican Order.
