Galleria Sciarra
10 Via Marco Minghetti Roma
The Palazzo Sciarra Colonna di Carbognano stands as a striking testament to Rome’s architectural evolution, transforming from a simple pedestrian passage into a refined Art Nouveau masterpiece. Nestled near Via del Corso and Via delle Vergini, the palazzo emerged during the late 19th-century redevelopment of Rome, following its establishment as Italy’s capital.
Designed by Giulio De Angelis, the structure boasts an elegant iron and glass vault, a hallmark of the period’s innovation. Visitors are welcomed through an ornate entrance gate, leading to a richly decorated gallery adorned with frescoes by Giuseppe Cellini. Painted between 1885 and 1888, these murals depict idealized representations of women, reflecting the social and artistic values of the time.
A careful restoration in the 1970s ensured the preservation of the gallery’s intricate decorations, while reinforcing its structure for future generations. Today, the palazzo remains a hidden treasure within the Trevi neighborhood, offering a glimpse into Rome’s transition from classical grandeur to modern elegance.
